Realist oil painter Lee Price paints self-portraits of herself from an overhead vantage point, primarily in bathrooms while eating junk food.
It’s almost like looking in a mirror. I eat in the tub all the time.
Roy Lichtenstein, Kiss
I see this movie in a whole new light. And I love it that much more. I think Sofia had an affair with an old Bill Murray movie while feeling lost and lonely as a new bride, and this movie is her love letter to that moment. And to Japan. And love itself.
At least that’s the first act. The film becomes its own creature after that, full of melancholy and hope, sadness and comforting affection, feeling lost for the first time and for the hundredth time all at once. Not to mention one of the most perfectly bittersweet endings to a story that I’ve ever known.
